What is the Eco Council?
The School Eco Council is a group of pupils from the school who are elected to represent the voice and opinion of all the pupils in order to look after the school's environment. Each year from year 2 to year 6 has elected two representatives to sit on the Eco Committee. They have an important role in promoting our school to be green. Ysgol Bro Gwydir Eco Council members represent the voice of our pupils. They are informed principled citizens who are ready to be citizens of Wales and the world. We meet once every half term to have discussions about what we as a council need to work on but also to raise awareness of the need to look after our environment and our world. The Eco Council organizes a number of events and activities for the whole school.
We make sure we know about these nine important areas:
- Global Citizenship
- Rubbish
- Reduce Waste (e.g. recycling)
- Energy
- Water
- School land
- Biodiversity
- Transport
- Health, Wellbeing and Food
How did they decide what to do during the year?
Environmental review of the school - a tour around the school to see what the Eco Council could improve and to see what is good. Then select points to improve in the nine eco areas and place these in the eco action plan for the year.
