ECO Council

What is the Eco Council?

The School Eco Council is a group of pupils who are elected to represent the voice and opinions of all pupils, helping to look after the school’s environment. Each year, from Year 2 to Year 6, two representatives are elected to sit on the Eco Committee.

How the Eco Council Works

We meet once every half term to discuss what the Council needs to work on. We also raise awareness of the importance of looking after our environment and our world.

The Role of the Eco Council

  • Represent the voice of all pupils
  • Promote our school to be green and environmentally aware
  • Organize events and activities for the whole school
  • Encourage all pupils to be responsible citizens of Wales and the world

Our Targets This Year

  • Reduce unnecessary litter
  • Save energy – remember to switch off electricity
  • Reuse, reduce and recycle
  • Save water
  • Promote learners to be healthy individuals and reduce car use
  • Global Citizenship
  • School grounds – planting plants and improving green spaces

The Nine Eco Areas

The Eco Council focuses on nine important areas:

  1. Global Citizenship
  2. Rubbish
  3. Reduce Waste (e.g. recycling)
  4. Energy
  5. Water
  6. School Land
  7. Biodiversity
  8. Transport
  9. Health, Wellbeing and Food

How We Decide Our Projects

Each year we carry out an environmental review of the school. This involves a tour around the school to identify areas we could improve and areas that are already good. We then choose points to focus on within the nine eco areas and include them in the Eco Action Plan for the year.
